MS-Access
Since it's first release in 1992, Microsoft
Access has become the de facto desktop database.
Not only has it been accepted as a database
tool, but the power of the underlying Visual
Basic for Applications language has led it to
become accepted as a powerful development environment.
Of course it is not without it's limitations,
but when properly utilised it is more than
powerful enough to satisfy all but the most
demanding large scale multi-user requirements.
Proper utilisation is however key to a
successful Access implementation. Microsoft has
developed a very useful tool that can be quite
easily used by the undiscerning novice or
inexperienced in-house developer, but before
long poor design and hard coding can compromise
stability and complicate incorporation of
after-thoughts and additional functionality.
Where a system has already been put in place,
but it's limitations are being felt, PrimS'
extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of
MS Access allows us to quickly assess the system
and as appropriate stabilise the existing system
as a foundation for future development, or
transfer the existing data to a redesigned PrimS
system.
Thereafter the experience and
expertise a PrimS consultant will bring to the
project ensures that the fundamental core of the
application is prim and proper, appropriately
structured to facilitate modular incorporation
of Client's suggestions and requests subsequent
to the initial design stages.
Furthermore, MS Access is no island in the
Office Suite. The power of Object Linking and
Embedding (OLE) and the Visual Basic for
Applications (VBA) language allow us to tightly
integrate with Excel, Word and Outlook as
discussed in MS-Office
Integration.
